Negroni Week: Our Top 5 Bars to Enjoy a Negroni in Birmingham

13 September 2021

You can never say no to a cheeky Negroni, especially during Negroni Week!

Negroni Week Birmingham

The classic Negroni recipe was apparently invented at Caffè Casoni in Florence, Italy, when Count Camillo Negroni asked for a bolder version of the Americano cocktail with gin replacing soda water.

With equal parts Campari, gin and sweet vermouth, this short, ruby-toned cocktail is now appearing on many bar menus.

Here are our top 5 bars to enjoy a Negroni in Birmingham.

The Alchemist

The Grand, Colmore Row, Birmingham, B3 2DA

At The Alchemist, you'll get more than just their Barrell aged Negroni. This eccentric venue is known for their theatric escapades; expect a show while you watch your cocktail be made right in front of you.

The menu says the ingredients for this iconic cocktail are Bulldog Gin, Martini Rubino and Campari.

Plus, the Negronis don’t stop there as the Birmingham branch has The Alchemist’s first ever nitrogen infused Negroni tap!

Gas Street Social

166-168 Wharfside Street, The Mailbox, B1 1RL

Negroni Week Birmingham

Head to The Mailbox for some fun and games at Gas Street Social. They offer cocktails served with an inflatable unicorn, so you know you're in for a treat.

They describe their Negroni Sbagliato as "the downfall of several GSS managers & Italy's favourite mistake". They turn the Negroni on its head by ditching the gin and topping the classic combo of Campari and sweet Vermouth with sparking Prosecco.

The Cuban Embassy

23 St Mary's Row, Moseley, Birmingham, B13 8HW

Of course the host of Birmingham Rum Festival has dabbled in the Negroni arts.

Their Negroni is a mixture of Portobello Road gin, Campari, Dolin Rouge Vermouth and orange zest. Delicioso!

If you want to mix things up a little, order The Cuban Embassy’s cocktail ‘El Presidente’ which still has vermouth and and orange zest, but with grenadine and triple sec added and gin swapped for rum for that Cuban feel.

40 St Pauls

40 Cox St, Birmingham, B3 1RD

Negroni Week Birmingham

Voted World's Best Gin Bar in 2019, 40 St Pauls is a place to visit to enjoy a beautifully made Negroni.

The people at St Pauls know how to mix a good Negroni; with 140 gins in their collection, you could definitely call them experts in gin.

For a unique twist on this Italian cocktail, the bar created ‘The Figroni’. The drink is a blend of rooibos tea-infused Portobello Road gin, fig liqueur and Campari and comes with a slice of Serrano ham on the side.

You can never go wrong with drink and nibbles!

Theatrix

130 Colmore Row, Birmingham, B3 3AP

Negroni Week Birmingham

Sip your Negroni in style at Theatrix, housed in a stunning Grade II listed building looking over Victoria Square.

Enjoy Negronis day and night at Theatrix, with Negroni being served on their brunch menu as well as behind the bar, ready to sip while you're on the dancefloor.
