Pushkar re-opens with a hot new jungle look
After 16 celebrated years at the heart of Birmingham's Broad Street, Pushkar, the award-winning Indian restaurant and cocktail bar, closed its doors last month to prepare for a swish new refurbishment. This closure marked the beginning of an exciting transformation that promises to deliver an evolved experience while preserving the spirit that made Pushkar a beloved institution.
Known for its luxe gold and white interiors, innovative Indian cuisine and sleek cocktail bar, Pushkar amassed a loyal following over the years, drawing in diners from across the UK. A big fan favourite it was the place to see and be seen.
Its accolades included the the British Curry Awards (2021), Nation’s Curry Awards’ Best in Birmingham (2024 & 2025), Best Indian Restaurant in the West Midlands, The English Curry Awards and many more.
Creative Director and Founder Rai Singh, reflecting on the journey, said: "We never imagined the journey Pushkar would take us on when we opened in 2009. It’s been more than a restaurant — it’s been a community, a celebration, a movement. This isn’t goodbye. It’s a rebirth."
On social media, the announcement of the closure sparked a wave of emotional responses. Regulars described it as the end of an era, with one guest writing, "Pushkar wasn’t just a place to eat—it was the place we celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and friendships."
Speaking in July, Rai said, "We’re reimagining everything - from the menu to the experience. Expect something bold, refined and uniquely Birmingham. Pushkar was the beginning. What comes next will elevate everything we’ve built."
Set to open on August 1st, the new look is inspired by the jungle setting of the Bengal tiger with foliage and greenery, hues of jade and royal blue, plush velvet sofas and tigers on the ceiling. Gone is the white and gold and now in its place is a darker, more dramatic tropical look - a complete contrast to before.
Moving away from the fine dining element, they are leaning towards a more casual chic concept, to inspire more joyful group dining.
