Tom's Kitchen Birmingham opens at the Mailbox in time for Christmas.

Tom Aikens, one of the UK's most inspirational chefs, will open a restaurant, bar and deli here in December.

The award-winning Aikens is a former star of TV's Great British Menu. He currently owns five restaurants, in London, Dubai and Istanbul.

As we first reported back in July 2016, this will be first UK Tom's Kitchen venture outside of London.

Tom's Kitchen Birmingham will offer all-day dining, seven days a week

There will also be a range of private and semi-private spaces, perfect for parties and events

You'll also be able to order Prawn Tagliatelle with Red Peppers, Basil and Black Oil.

Wintry mains include Spiced Pumpkin with Burrata, Savoury Granola, Hazelnut Dressing and Rocket

And there's a brunch menu complete with Tom's Full English.

Cocktails and craft beer are the order of the day, with classic blends like Old Fashioned and Brandy Alexander.

The beers will come from Kent's Whistable Brewery, a small craft outfit brewing a variety of different styles.

Speaking of the launch of Tom's Kitchen Birmingham, founder Tom Aikens said:

"Birmingham is a vibrant and bustling city with a thriving food scene. There is already a wonderful array of restaurants in the city, and I believe that Tom's Kitchen will offer an exciting new option for diners in the Mailbox development."

This is a culinary coup for the shopping centre, which recently completed a £50 million redevelopment project.

The opening of the new restaurant is timed to coincide with the busy Christmas period.

Bosses hope it will draw the crowds and offer a high-end dining experience to complement the upmarket stores on offer.

Simon Samuels, Partner at Brockton Capital, joint owners of the Mailbox, said:

"We're hugely excited to welcome Tom's Kitchen Birmingham to the Mailbox later this year. The Mailbox is home to a number of ‘firsts' and, being the first venture for Tom Aikens outside of London, this latest opening is no exception.

"The restaurant will be a fantastic addition to the Mailbox's already impressive portfolio of premium lifestyle brands."

Tom Aikens is the latest in a line of London chefs taking an interest in Birmingham.

Anthony Demetre of Soho's Arbutus has hinted at a new opening, while Des McDonald launched sky-high Japanese venue Rofuto this spring.

With our city now home to six Michelin Star restaurants, many will be hoping for more next year.
