Review : Water at Lulu Wild

18 August 2024

Do you like Chinese food? Of course you do, so let me tell you about your new favourite Chinese restaurant.

Sandwiched between Box and Slug & Lettuce at Brindley Place, you’ll find Lulu Wild, the Chinese restaurant taking a contemporary spin on traditional dishes.

Their current concept menu ‘Enchanted Tales: Depths of the Oasis’ is on Chapter 3 – Water, and will definitely wet your appetite.

If you’re after something artful to sip on, the cocktail bar makes a perfect stop. Beautiful décor and a long list of drinks on offer. I can personally recommend the Pearl Tea and the Hainan Cooler mocktails from the Chinese Temple drinks menu.

If you’re dining in, you have to try the Dim Sum. My favourite is the Tea House Sharer (sharing is, of course, optional). Each tray includes steamed dim sum dumplings filled with XO prawn, crystal vegetable, scallop shui mai with tobiko and black pepper chicken, served with black vinegar and a chilli sauce. Make sure you have a drink to hand because the chilli sauce packs a punch.

At our most recent visit, the friendly staff were on hand to talk us through the dishes and recommend their favourites. We tried the Mongolian Lamb and the Roasted Chicken in Satay Sauce main dishes. So much flavour! We paired them with the generous portions of jasmine rice and sides of Pak Choi with Garlic and Stir-fry Tender stem Broccoli with garlic.

The menu also includes noodle and rice options, seafood and vegetarian plates too. I have my eye on the Sichuan Lobster Tail for my next trip to Lulu’s.

If you somehow have room for dessert, you won’t be disappointed. Lots to choose from, like the Nutella Bao, Thousand Layers of Dessert and Chocolate Orchid. This time around, we opted for the Imperial Garden, a matcha and passionfruit sponge, served with crumble, compote and sorbet, and the Mango Pudding with tapioca pearls, grapefruit and sorbet. A perfect fruity ending to the Chinese banquet.

We finished off the experience with a Deep Blue Sea cocktail, basically a holiday in a glass. Patron Silver, coconut and lychee goodness.

Overall, I felt happy with my choice of dishes, whilst simultaneously having food envy, so I think another visit is on the cards very soon as I need to work my way through the rest of the menu.
