Introducing Bite Your Brum as our summer editor

1 July 2021

We’ve got a treat for you this summer, as Dinehub Birmingham has a new guest editor for the next few months. Laura McEwan - author of award-winning Birmingham food blog ‘Bite Your Brum’ - is taking the ed’s seat to bring you guys bi-weekly articles featuring where to wine and dine yourselves over the summer.

You can expect everything from the best burgers to fine dining, giving you the insider knowledge of what’s happening across the city’s ever-evolving food and drink scene. Without further ado, here’s Laura to explain what she’ll be bringing to the Dinehub Birmingham community over summer.

Hello everyone - it’s lovely to be helping Team Dinehub as a guest editor. Some of you may know me and some of you may not, so I’ll start by introducing myself and then tell you a bit about what I’ll be covering over coming months.

Bite Your Brum

I’m a freelance media and comms bod by day and also run Bite Your Brum. I started the food blog in 2017 and over the years it’s grown into (I hope) a handy local resource for folk wanting to know where to eat and drink in Birmingham. I mainly cover the city centre and am forever shouting about the best places to eat, drink and be merry.

Giggling Squid

Whether it’s lunch on the go or a swish date night; I believe Brum has something for everyone and my goal is always to help you think outside the box when it comes to spending your money. I cover golden oldies as well as newbies to the scene – nothing is off limits.

I’m excited to be the summer guest editor of Dinehub Birmingham and help more likeminded food fans find great local hot spots to enjoy. We’ve got some great articles coming over the next few months that you’ll find both online and via the social apps, so check back regularly to keep up to date.

Mainly, I just want to remind people why we have so much to love in Brum, especially when it comes to the hospitality scene. Covid brought some real challenges to the city but, as restrictions end and she rises like a phoenix, Birmingham will shine again. The full post-pandemic landscape is still to be seen; while we’ve lost some brilliant businesses over the past 18 months many others have flourished. So, the message I want to leave you with today is get out and support your favourite places.

Choose local and choose the places that have always been there for you. The saying ‘use it or lose it’ has never been more accurate. Don’t wait to revisit a restaurant or bar you love – they need you more than ever.

Now is the time to support the places that have provided for you during the lockdowns, the semi-lockdowns and whatever the heck Christmas turned out to be. Let’s work together to help not hinder (looking at you ‘no show’ people…) and rebuild better than ever from the pandemic.

I can’t wait to share some of my favourite places with everyone and be sure to follow Dinehub on Instagram so you can keep up with the latest news and stories.

See you next week for my first post – have a great weekend.

Laura x
