Street food and creativity put Birmingham in Top 10 Cities Guide

Birmingham has been named one of the Top 10 Cities of 2015 by popular international travel platform Rough Guides, joining Hamburg and New Orleans on a list of global destinations.

The city has previously been hailed by the publication for its ‘first-rate restaurant scene', which famously boasts more Michelin-starred venues than any other English city outside London.

The street food and independent eatery scene has also come along in leaps and bounds. Figures from Visit Birmingham last year revealed that over half of Birmingham's visitors are drawn by the food and drink here.

Rough Guides, which is followed by 84,000 people on Twitter, praised Birmingham as an emerging destination with new offerings:

‘Creative hotspots…like the old industrial district of Digbeth, where vintage shops and street food stalls have begun to appear in and around the old Victorian buildings."

The guide also looked forward to the much-anticipated opening of Grand Central:

"With Birmingham New Street station reopening in 2015 after a much-needed renovation, this year is the ideal time to make a trip."
