The Birmingham Food Calendar 2018 is a celebration of exquisitely presented creations by some of the city’s best-loved chefs, mixologists, artisans and independent restaurants.
Which dishes are featured?
From intricate creations at Michelin-starred restaurant Adams, to mouth-watering comfort food from The Church Inn, Birmingham’s full range of gastronomy is represented.
Birmingham's independent bar scene provides an exquisite flowery gin and tonic from 40 St Pauls, and an apple-based masterpiece by Rob Wood at Smultronställe.
Each month features an original photograph taken by local food photographer Jack Spicer Adams, with details of the dish and which venue it comes from.
The Best Brummie Food...
Birmingham’s renowned international cuisine is on show, from Seafood Paella at El Borracho de Oro to Steamed Sea Bass in Fresh Lime Sauce at Sabai Sabai.
There's plenty of beautiful British food featured too, from Pot-Roasted Shropshire Lamb at Circle Restaurant, to Belly Pork with Toffee Apple Sauce at The Old Crown.
And Christmas comes early with an offering of Deep-Filled Mince Pies photographed at independent community bakery Peel & Stone.
Photographer Jack Spicer Adams has been photographing food in Birmingham for seven years, and is a real food lover. He said:
“I love taking food photos because I love to be around good food, it's something that excites me every day. Everybody eats, everybody knows the joy you feel from good food and photography can take you right there to that feeling.”
A Brummie born and bred, Jack also talked about his passion for the city’s rich food and drink scene:
“What I love about the food in Birmingham is the variety, I love the mix of cuisines you can eat in this city. We've got people from different cultures and backgrounds coming together in Birmingham, opening restaurants and sharing food from around the world.
“I feel like eating the food of another culture is such a great way to start to understand that culture and I can explore so many in Birmingham. I find that so exciting.”
