This year’s Birmingham Cocktail Weekend was one to remember. Birmingham was free to thrive with lockdown restrictions lifted, and the atmosphere was buzzing with booze filled excitement.
This city wide festival included delicious workshops, temporary tattoos and magical signature cocktails. The streets were flooded with excited cocktail patrons, clutching their BCW booklets as they explored the city through cocktail glasses.

Dine Hub’s Martha Coleman embarked on the cocktail journey for the first time this year. She gives us the lowdown on her favourite cocktails from the weekend.

I had such an amazing time exploring Birmingham through the various bars and restaurants offering signature cocktails; I preferred it more than the usual city guide.
I also loved that every single cocktail had their own unique concept and flavour. Yes I prefer the sweeter variety, but I appreciated tasting bitter, sour and even smokey flavours in the different concoctions I sampled.
My top pick was The Alchemist’s Pop-sicle. I’m a sucker for tequila, so I already knew I was going to enjoy it, but I didn’t think I’d enjoy it so much I’d buy a second one. I couldn’t stop gawking at the bartender’s little bubble gun as he blew up the cherry bubble on top of the glass. The bubble danced on the rim of the glass, and I couldn’t believe I was already I love with this cocktail before I took the first sip. The strong tequila fused with citrus flavours blew me away, and the cherry flavoured bubble tasted deliciously sweet.

I did manage to visit over half the venues, but my friend and I were pretty tipsy; planning is very hard to do when you’re 10 cocktails down. Next year I plan to have the whole weekend free and visit all the venues (and also plan sober).
