Chef Pawan Handa, from the Horseshoe Restaurant in Hall Green, will be popping up on screens across the country this Thursday (14th June) as she faces gastronomic giant Marco Pierre White in new series Kitchen Wars.

Taking to the road in his ominously named ‘Battle Truck,' Marco Pierre White scours the United Kingdom in the search for top-class culinary talent. The chef's famously high standards mean that of the 400 restaurants that applied to take part in the show, only 40 were eventually given the nod.
Birmingham's Horseshoe Bar & Restaurant was one of these. Chef Pawan Handa is the Executive Chef, and works alongside her son Tanveer. She was naturally delighted when the letter came:
"I cannot believe I got through the audition process and got a chance to cook for Marco in this competition. "I was really nervous cooking for a Michelin-starred chef. It was an amazing opportunity and one I will never forget."
Marco Pierre White himself last year launched his newest Bar and Grill, located at the top of luxury Birmingham development The Cube. This is a new challenge for him as well, as he explained:
"This is a very exciting new programme for me to be involved with because although I've been a chef, run restaurants and taught all manner of people how to cook, this is the first time I'll be judging professional restaurateurs."
Kitchen Wars continues on Thursday 14th June at 9pm on Channel 5. Look out for Birmingham's representatives.
